Don't let your kids go into QA
It's a thankless job. You find problems, you tell people about them. They get upset. They ask you to fix them. Most of the time, you can't, instead having to turn to the developers who wrote the code. They don't like you finding problems in their code, and adding to their workload by asking for them to fix their bugs. I know my manager appreciates what I do. Everyone else hates me a little bit. Granted, things are in a goofier state with this project than many others I've been involved with. But it would be nice to have a run of good news every so often to lessen the depression.

Sounds like testing as well. You find problems, you tell people, they tell you to fix them, you say, "to fix them, we need specs," they say "so write some," you say, "that is at the level of curricular design--your job," they say, "we're going to use this other test that has bigger problems because they are a paid company and won't admit to their problems because they're secret!"
Grrr.
