Our Blueberry Girl...

J and I have long called our yet to arrive baby 'the blueberry', because back when we first found out we were pregnant, one of J's pregnancy books told her that the baby was the size of a blueberry. It seems to have stuck. So it felt a bit serendipitous that this book came out a few months before our daughter is due. It was written by Neil Gaiman, the author behind everything from the Sand Man comic books to Coraline. He wrote this poem for a friend's daughter, and then turned it into a book, a prayer for a girl to have a wonderful life, filled with the experiences necessary to make her a lucky, brave, amazing woman. It arrived last night, and both J and I teared up reading it.

My mother, for as long as I can remember, would always buy me books, for my birthday, for Christmas, just whenever. And she would always write me a little note on the inside cover, telling me why she thought I might like this one, why she picked it, just a little message to me. Every so often, I'd go back and read through some of the notes she left, and it made me feel so special, not to mention how much of an emphasis it placed on reading. I've loved books my entire life, and it's a passion I hope my daughter shares. So I'm going to continue my mom's tradition, and I'll be leaving notes for my daughter, starting with this book.

Hey, buddy,

You've got me so blurry eyed, I can hardly see what I'm typing. I can't wait to see read this book.

Love you!

Our little blueberry is one lucky little girl. We love her so much and we haven't even met her yet. She's been having hiccups a lot lately. It's adorable.
